Gerald Steinmeyer was born in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1950. He now resides and maintains his studio near Greensboro, NC.  A Fogel Scholarship recipient, Steinmeyer received formal training at the North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, NC.   He first became acquainted with the technique of buon fresco during the summer of 1979 as Ben Long and an international team of students created "The Last Supper" fresco at Holy Trinity Episcopal church at Glendale Springs, NC. The following year, as Long returned alone to do the secco work, Steinmeyer assisted. Steinmeyer also assisted Long on his fresco "The Resurrection" in St. Peter's Catholic Church in Charlotte, NC. While in Italy, Steinmeyer continued his study of the art of fresco and went on to create his own frescoes: "Miracle of the Loaves and Fishes", at the Germanton United Methodist Church; "The Last Supper" in Bermuda Village Chapel, Advance, NC; "Christ with Gilded Halo" in the collection of The Church of The Transfiguration in Orleans, Cape Cod, MA; "Mary with the Young Jesus" in gilded tabernacle frame in the collection of the artist; and, "Education" a fresco triptych in Norwest School, Greensboro, NC.

In Tradition and The Pursuit of Balance: The Paintings of Gerald Steinmeyer, David Bearinger writes, "Like his other works, Steinmeyer's frescoes show how deeply his artistic roots extend into the soil of the Western tradition, with a lineage of inspiration and influence reaching back to Fra Angelica and the first light of the Renaissance.  Steinmeyer's work reflects the essence of beauty in proportion...and divine form in mathematical relationships.  For those of us who love and respect his work, in its balance there is wisdom and beauty beyond words."
